All About Janine
Even though I was born in The Dalles and spent 24 years
in Los Angeles, Portland has always been my home. I
graduated from Roosevelt High School and Portland State,
but most of all, my family lives here. Even though I’m still
‘growing up’ I think I did the majority of it here in the City
of Roses.
My parents had a pharmacy near the University of Portland
called University Drug and my sister, brother and I all worked
there as kids. I still know the lost art of counting back change
without the aid of a computer.
I started my radio career in Portland in the late ‘70’s and was
lucky enough to work at a few Portland stations including KWJJ
and the legendary 62KGW in its ‘Hey Day’, where I was the
first female disc jockey…ever! In fact, John Williams, Scott
Tom and I all worked at Super 62 at the same time.
In 1980 I broke my mother’s heart and moved to Los Angeles
where I had a 20+ year radio and television career and was
even nominated for a couple of Emmy’s for an environmental
TV show I hosted.
I’ve always been an avid gardener and in 2001 after taking
design classes I left radio for a few years and started my own
landscape design business. You may have even seen me on
HGTV’s “Landscaper’s Challenge”, which I won.
I still love gardening and am quite handy around the house,
something I got from my dad. I also like to ski and golf and
am a ‘foodie’, which works out well in Portland since there
are so many great restaurants. I love animals, especially my
Toy Poodle, Lambchop, who knows he’s actually human and
my adopted cat, Sweetie Pie, who I was lucky enough to find
through the Oregon Humane Society. I’ve also been fortunate
enough to have traveled all over the world and a couple of my
favorite places are Budapest and Venice.
Music has always been a passion and I would list The Beatles,
Heart, Luther Vandross, Diana Krall, Aretha Franklin and Journey
as some of my favorites. Personally, I play the piano and
harmonica, but not as well as Stevie Wonder!
In 2005 I moved back to my beloved Portland, the best thing I’ve done for myself in years. I get to see my family and old friends now whenever I want to, live in a beautiful environment and have a job that I actually can’t wait to get to every day! ____________________________________________________ JANINE WOLF
